For the better part of the 20th century, women have been fighting for equal rights, better jobs, better pay, and respect. Now, in 2007, women have more rights and respect than they have had for almost 2000 years! Granted we still have a ways to go - for everyone, but all things considered…we have made tremendous gains!

There are many women who are responsible for going against the government and those in power to gain the right to vote, education, and jobs that used to be considered only for men.

Yet I can’t help but wonder if the Goddess movement, empowering women, healing work, and prayers to the Goddess have played a major part in gaining the upper hand for women?

If so, that just goes to show you, the power of prayer, power in ourselves, and the gods…never underestimate either! But, has this swinging of the pendulum caused a possible issue that has long-lasting repercussions? The patriarchal society has destroyed women and men alike, as has the rabid women’s movement that takes down all men as being bad and violent. Not all of us are bad or “typical men”.

Yet, there are some who believe all men are to blame, even in this day and age, and that the world would be better off without them. In fact, some practice Goddess only worship, and the very thought of an penile tool (athame, wand) or male aspect deity on the altar sickens them. I have heard it said from some Dianics  that they are not even allowed to look at an altar with a male deity image place upon it.

So are we doing more harm? Is the true answer to healing and recovery from 2000 years of patriarchal society really neccessary? Or are we repeating the same mistakes? What is the key, here? I believe the only answer is by balance of both. Granted, there has been damage done - on both sides, and the answer to true healing is to find the balance and understanding of each aspect. If you can’t, if you are only one-sided, to the point of demonizing and alienating the other aspect, then you are no better than patriachs that used to be in power.

Let’s reach out and find our balance - or at the very least, find the power within to understand and love all aspects of the Goddess, God, Earth, and our fellow beings.
